Preparation is most of the job

Every quote lists these steps, so you can see where the time goes.

WashSugar soap inside, a gentle wash outside to lift dirt and mould.
Scrape and sandLoose and flaking paint comes off, edges are feathered smooth.
Fill and caulkCracks, nail holes and gaps around frames are filled and sealed.
PrimeBare timber, new plaster and stains get the right primer.
Two finish coatsCut in by hand, rolled evenly, checked in daylight.
